MOSCATO D'ASTI OF THE RIZZI WINERY ON THE "VINOUS" BY ANTONIO GALLONI

An Article on the Website Vinous by Ian D’Agata, Italy’s best wine writer and one of the world’s eight best international wine writers, talk about two of the wine of the Rizzi Winery: Moscato d’Asti 2017 and Moscato d’Asti Vendemmia Tardiva Frimaio 2017.

This is the judgment of Ian D’Agata:

MOSCATO D’ASTI 2017

Vintage: 2017

Producer: Rizzi

Name: Moscato d’Asti

Score: 91

Drinking Window: 2018 - 2020

Release price: Not Available

Review Date: Dec 2018

Grape/Blend: Moscato Bianco

Tasting Note:

Luminous straw-green. Fresh aromas of ripe apricot, pear, green apple and vanilla. Rich, dense and juicy, displaying a multilayered quality to the clean, penetrating flavors of sweet spices and ripe citrus fruit. Closes long and clean, with mineral elements adding complexity. The grapes grow in vineyards in Treiso and Neviglie ranging from 230 to 430 meters above sea level, and not by chance, this sparkler often showcases cooler-climate notes of fresh citrus rather than riper fruit notes typical of other Moscato d’Asti wines made in warmer areas.

MOSCATO D’ASTI VENDEMMIA TARDIVA FRIMAIO 2017

Vintage: 2017

Producer: Rizzi

Name: Moscato d’Asti Vendemmia Tardiva Frimaio

Score: 92

Drinking Window: 2018 - 2021

Release price: Not Available

Review Date: Dec 2018

Grape/Blend: Moscato Bianco

Tasting Note:

Bright golden yellow. Very dense, rich aromas and flavors of orange oil, vanilla, caramel, honey, pear nectar and baked apple pie. Suave and luscious, lingering impressively on the long, perfumed back end. This is a true late-harvest wine, with the grapes left on the vines and picked later in the autumn, first made in the 2001 vintage. The grapes were picked on November 21, which corresponds to the first day of Frimaio, a month of the new revolutionary calendar created during the French revolution. The wine is made from ridiculously low yields (15 hL/ha) and all the bottles carry labels drawn by hand bu owner Enrico Dellapiana.
