"PIEDMONT IS WHERE TERROIR DEFINES VINTAGE CHARACTER" - QUENCH MAGAZINE

Quench Magazine publishes an Article that tells of the comparison between the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Barolo and Barbaresco wines, "three vintages that could not have been more different".

Quench Magazine, the oldest food and beverage magazine in North America, with over 450000 readers per issue, has published an interesting article on Barolo and Barbaresco "in comparison", in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 and in which they are also told two wines of our Rizzi Winery: RIZZI BARBARESCO NERVO 2014 and RIZZI BARBARESCO PAJORE '2016.

Here are some passages of this article, which you can read in its entirety by CLICKING HERE

“When wine folk speak of wine having a sense of place and expressing the site where it has been grown, the two regions that are most often referenced are Burgundy in France and Piedmont in Italy…

At the recent Nebbiolo Prima and Grandi Langhe events in Alba, the heart of Piedmont’s Langhe region, producers and wine professionals gathered for all things Nebbiolo and to taste the soon-to-be-released 2016 Barbarescos, 2015 Barolos and a plethora of other vintages of these wines composed exclusively of the regal Nebbiolo grape.

What struck me most were the comparisons between the wines of 2014, 2015 and 2016, three vintages that could not be more different.

The article continues by telling all three of these vintages, going to hear the direct opinion of those who produce this wine and choosing, for each vintage, some of the most surprising wines.

From this accurate and interesting analysis and comparing the anticipated longevity and drinkability of the three vintages, it concludes believing that "2016 is the year with the longest potential, maybe 30 years due to its complexity and structure ... a classic vintage that will age well ...

2014 is a beautiful vintage to drink young, ideally within the first 10 years of his life, because the balance is so beautiful ...

And for 2015 the wines will not age very long because the fruit is ripe but the tannins are aggressive ... A vintage with the smallest drinkability window then, maybe between eight and 15 years ... " The article delves into some wines from each of the years told. Here's what he writes about the Wines of the Rizzi Winery:

RIZZI BARBARESCO NERVO 2014

Fresh, elegant, floral and engaging with aromas of mint, leather and spice. Flavours of bright cherry, spice and tartness with elegant tannins and fresh acidity on a bright finish.

RIZZI BARBARESCO PAJORE 2016

Engaging with great construction, layers upon layers of flavour nuances. Fragrant, juicy and elegant with an abundance of red fruit and liquorice, but extremely fresh, well balanced and focussed.
